Herreshoff 12

Welcome to the Shelter Island Yacht Club H12 fleet.

The Shelter Island Yacht Club fleet dates from 1974, when Samuel Hird sailed H12 "Poppy" from New London to Shelter Island. We are now the largest fleet of H12s in the United States with over 65 boats in our fleet. The Club sponsors weekly races in the waters around Shelter Island with an average of 20 to 26 boats on the starting line during the Summer Series from mid-June to Labor Day, and informal pre and post season racing. We are a very active and convivial sailing community, attracting both racers and casual sailors. On any summer day or evening, a group of H12s can be seen out for a pleasure sail with friends and family. Additionally, the fleet sponsors Sunday Ladies’ Races and social sailing events including the annual H12 Sail About and Moonlight Sails.
