Clubhouse/Dining

The SIYC Clubhouse designed by a New Jersey architect Botticher, opened in the spring of 1892.

It encompassed spaces for work, race viewing, and socializing. But what defined the Clubhouse was its vast, hospitable verandah, filled with rocking chairs. As two visiting sailors stated, the Clubhouse is where the SIYC “dispenses courtesy to those of other clubs as they wander in and out of these waters.”

The Clubhouse today retains the spirit of the original building. The dining room, perched over the beautiful waters of Dering Harbor, is busy all summer. The interior rooms are beautifully decorated with trophies, burgees and portraits of past Commodores, host meetings, dances, lectures and various social events. The popular second-floor deck serves as a gathering place for spectators and sailors and friends enjoying conversation.
