The Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce produces a map that, in addition to giving an excellent roadmap of the Island, also provides an extensive list of Island attractions, including restaurants, shops and services. This map is updated annually and is available at the desk. If you’d like to download the map and/or learn more about the Island in advance of your visit, The Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce is your best first stop. A very short distance from the Yacht Club is the Shelter Island Heights Historic District. You can read about it here: http://www.shelter-island.org/heights.html The Heights also offers two intimate commercial districts – on Grand Avenue and Bridge Street – that offer restaurant options, shops, a pharmacy, and a post office. All are walkable from the Club
If you wish to explore farther afield, you can rent bikes at Piccozzi’s Bike Shop, which is within walking distance of the Club at 177 North Ferry Road, Shelter Island Heights (631) 749-0045.
