Visitor Information

We extend to skippers and crews a cordial welcome to Shelter Island and the facilities of the Shelter Island Yacht Club. To visiting yachtsmen who are members of a recognized yacht club, the SIYC offers the use of its facilities for a period not to exceed one week. The visitors shall register and apply for a Guest Card. An extended stay (longer than three days) will be permitted to visiting yachtsman only once per season, and a visit of any duration will not be permitted more often than once per month. Checkout time is noon.

A facility use fee of $65 per day is charged for each visiting yacht. SIYC accepts VISA, MasterCard, or American Express as the only means of payment.

Services

For information on availability, arriving yachts should hail the Shelter Island Yacht Club on VHF Channel 74 when approaching the island. Launch service is available by calling on Channel 74 or by sounding three blasts and displaying a “T” flag. Dinghies may land on the inland side of the southwest floating docks.

Ice is available at the SIYC office or bar.

Dining Room and Bar

Shelter Island Yacht Club offers full luncheon, dinner, and bar service in our warm and friendly dining rooms, decks, and bar. Please see the Clubhouse section of this website for information, menus, and special events. Reservations are suggested for weekdays and are required for weekend dining.

Dining Attire

Casual dress is acceptable for all evenings except Saturday evening, when jackets are required for men. Attire and footwear appropriate to a yacht club is expected at all times. Bathing suits are not appropriate attire.
Denim jeans are not acceptable attire for lunch or dinner in the restaurant; they can be worn in the bar at all times.

General Information

  • Showers are available for guests on the north side of the Junior Yacht Club.
  • Shelter Island has a mandatory recycling law. You will find containers marked for this purpose on the west side of the clubhouse.
  • Fuel and a pumpout station are available at Piccozzi’s Marina located at the head of the harbor.

Miscellaneous

Shelter Island has no public transportation, but most services are only a short, pleasant walk away. The ferry to Greenport is only a few minutes by foot from the clubhouse. The Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce  http://shelterislandchamber.org offers a complimentary map listing business and points of interest to make your stay more enjoyable.
