Adult Racing Program

Shelter Island Yacht Club

Dear SIYC Members,

As part of our ongoing commitment to sailing development, beginning this season we are looking for adult members interested in competing in outside events with other yacht clubs.  This adult racing program will be aimed at the full range of our membership: from young members to masters, novices to experts.  Please feel free to contact Jeff Bresnahan, our sailing development director, if you are interested in learning more about the opportunities available.

Below are several of those opportunities:

2014 U.S. Qualifying Series for the 2015 NYYC Invitation Cup

Over the winter, we were among a select group of clubs throughout the country invited to compete in the US Qualifying Series for the 2015 New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup.  The regatta will be raced in J/70s and Sonars, with the Top 3 teams qualifying for a berth in the 2015 Invitational Cup presented by Rolex.  The NYYC Invitation Cup has gained notoriety as the world’s premier Corinthian, one-design big-boat regatta.  You can learn more about the event here:

We would like to put our best foot forward and will be seeking a high level of skilled adult sailors who can commit to several practices throughout the summer.  If you are interested please contact Jeff Bresnahan no later thanJune 1st .

We are excited about these new initiatives for adult sailing and hope that a number of you will be interested – please contact Jeff Bresnahan at if you would like to get involved or have any questions.
