PHRF (Performance Handicap Racing Formula)

SIYC has a long history of PHRF racing.  Many of our Yachts have competed on the Eastern seaboard in a variety of regattas.  Many members participate in the OffSoundings Series, Block Island Race Week, Brooklyn Ocean Race, The Whitebread and the Newport to Bermuda Race.  SIYC hosts the following local events in July, August, and September.

The Heatherton Trophy Race  Invitational race is a 15.5 nautical mile race on July 8, 2012.

The 126th Anniversary Race will be held on August 5th 2012.

The Edmund Ward Poor Memorial Trophy invitational race is 17.39 nautical miles beginning in Noyac Bay on Sept 2, 2012.

PHRF racing is open to all SIYC members. Each race typically has several divisions which encompass both cruising (non-spinaker) and spinaker. All boats must have a  current PHRF certificate, complete a standard entry form and be at the race start at the proper time and place. Entry forms can be found on the ELIYA and the SIYC websites. Information about ELIYA and area PHRF racing , as well as how to obtain a PHRF certificate, can be found at www.elisailing.org  Additional information about PHRF handicaps can be found on the US Sailing website http://offshore.ussailing.org/PHRF
